CHP car seat safety check at Burlington Coat Factory The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will hold a free car seat safety check on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Burlington Coat Factory, 2171 W. Florida Ave. The Hemet Woman’s Club is cosponsoring this event with the CHP. A brief history of the Southern California citrus industry The Hemet Heritage Foundation invites you to join friends and historians in the Library Room (Rm. 117) of the Diamond Valley Middle School Monday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. Local history buff Bob Chaparro will talk about Southern California’s citrus boom with special attention to the San Jacinto Valley. Location: Library (Rm. 117), Diamond Valley Middle School, 291 W. Chambers St., South Hemet. Hemet names new acting city engineer Nino Abad has been appointed as acting city engineer to replace Steve Latino, who left the city to work in a private sector job. Abad will serve in this position for several months while the city recruits a permanent engineer. Abad has been the city’s principal engineer since 2015; he was previously senior engineer for the city of Menifee. Sage Society presents history of citrus marketing The Sage Society will meet Jan. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Ramona Room of Miller-Jones Mortuary. David Boule, author of “The Orange and the Dream of California” will speak about and show the imagery created by marketers designed to motivate those living in the east to move west. David Kelley and Tom Garnella will share their individual family’s collection of citrus and produce labels. Jan. 10, 1:30 p.m., Miller Jones Mortuary, Ramona Room, 1501 W. Florida Ave., Hemet. The Hemet Woman’s Club is sponsoring a Bowling for the Kids fundraiser at AMF Lanes in Hemet on Jan. 14 from 1-4 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Call (951) 238-8560 for information. Vintage RV display at Golden Village Palms Golden Village Palms will host a Vintage Getaway weekend from Friday, Jan. 13 to Monday, Jan. 16. The event offers attendees the opportunity to see some of the finest vintage trailers and campers from around the nation. Those staying at Golden Village Palms during the event can also experience the luxury amenities and countless activities the resort offers year-round. NOW ACCEPTING - Measure U Citizen Oversight Committee Applications The Hemet City Council is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving on the Citizen Oversight Committee for the recently enacted Ordinance No. 1918 (Measure U) to independently review and advise upon the City’s proposed expenditures of Measure U Funds.
