Benoit on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. A reception at the church will immediately follow. A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. on Monday, and public viewing is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The church is located at 47225 Washington St., La Quinta. Benoit passed away Monday evening at his Bermuda Dunes home after a short but heartily fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He spent decades in public service as a member of the California Highway Patrol, a school board member, state lawmaker and county supervisor. Benoit’s 45 years of public service helped strengthen the local economy, protect neighborhoods from crime, improve transportation systems and expand access to health care in eastern Riverside County. While working for the Highway Patrol and raising his family, he dedicated his evenings to earning an associate’s degree from Riverside City College, a bachelor of science degree in public safety from Cal State, Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in public administration from Cal State, San Bernardino. In honor of Supervisor Benoit, the American flag, the state flag and the POW/MIA flag will be flown at half-staff at all county-owned and leased facilities until Jan. 10.
