■ By Halima Haider / Reporter Popeyes Chicken to finally open after Big Game weekend Famous Louisiana-accented multinational fast-food chain known for its spicy fried chicken and biscuits and sides, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, is to launch its much anticipated Hemet location on Florida Avenue tentatively Monday, Feb. 6. Calling all women: Community Builders recruiting women to give back Community Builders, a celebrated non-profit of Hemet, is looking for awesome women eager to get involved in the community to join the group. Community Builders’ mission is to give back to the community with projects including but not limited to “Hamburger Bash,” which will be held the first Saturday in March to benefit San Jacinto schools; “Valentine for Vets,” a delivery service for a local Veteran’s Hospital in honor of Valentine’s Day; a project through which Christmas trees are provided to needy families in the community; and a few other projects that come up during the year. The group meets on the third Thursday of every month at the San Jacinto Museum, located at Estudillo Heritage Park on 695 Ash St., in San Jacinto at 6 p.m. For more information call Lynn Peterson, (951) 255-5598. Send a Valentine to a veterans at area libraries Community Builders has set up “Valentine Boxes” at the Hemet, San Jacinto and Valle Vista public libraries for a current local initiative titled “Valentines for Veterans.” Attendees are encouraged to bring in a Valentine to any of the listed libraries. “Valentine for a Vet” will be picked up early on Feb. 13 to be delivered to the Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda. Lamb Canyon construction project schedule subject to change California Department of Transportation has changed the work schedule for a project to install drainage inlets on Highway 79 from First Street in Beaumont to Gilman Springs Road near San Jacinto that began Monday, Jan. 30. Going forward, construction on northbound lanes will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Thursdays and Fridays. Southbound lane construction will happen between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and midnight to 5 a.m., Thursdays and Fridays. One of two lanes will be available during work hours. According to Caltrans, the $3 million project, which is expected to complete in late May, is needed to direct water off the highway and into the median, which will reduce the potential for hydroplaning on Lamb Canyon. Come celebrate the 37th annual Valley Quilters’ Quilt Show Next weekend, Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11, the Valley Quilters will host its 37th annual show at Valley-Wide Regional Park on 901 W. Esplanade Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entrance fee is just $7 per person; children 3 and under get free access (no strollers, or rolling carts please). More than 100 quilts will be on display side-by-side with related vendors, including a large boutique, a consignment shop, a featured quilter (TBA), a quilt appraiser on Saturday, a food vendor, and free parking.
