FOUR ARRESTED IN “WILLFUL AND MALICIOUS” DISCHARGE OF FIREARM FROM MOVING VEHICLE

On Jan. 23, at 2:34 p.m., the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a firearm discharge from a black compact sedan with four passengers traveling in the 19600 block of Gilman Springs Road in San Jacinto. San Jacinto Police Department responded and located the suspect sedan as it was traveling southbound on San Jacinto Avenue, south of 7th Street. A firearm was found inside the sedan after police performed a vehicle stop near San Jacinto and Esplanade avenues, according to police reports. Alondra Gutierrez, Phillip Rivera, Sam Skipper, and a 17-year-old minor were arrested on suspicion of “willfully and maliciously” discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle, and will be charged with possession of a stolen firearm, according to sheriff’s deputies. Gutierrez, Rivera, and Skipper were booked into the Southwest Detention Center; the minor was booked into juvenile hall. No injuries resulted from this incident. BREAK-IN AT VACANT STATER BROS. ON FLORIDA AND SANDERSON

Hemet Police arrested a man who they said broke the window of a vacant Stater Bros. on Sanderson and Florida avenues and entered it on Sunday, Jan. 22. Stater Bros. main office said that the company is no longer associated with the vacant lot as their lease has expired.

MOTORCYCLIST HELD IN LIEU OF $100,000 BAIL AFTER FLEEING HEMET POLICE

After an early morning high-speed motorcycle pursuit on Sunday, Jan. 15, Hemet Police arrested James Douglas Hamilton, 26, and booked him into Southwest Detention Center for investigation of recklessly evading police officers and violation of probation. The pursuit started at about 5:50 a.m. after an attempted traffic enforcement stop in the area of Stetson Avenue near the intersection of Kirby Street. Hamilton refused to yield and proceeded to flee from officers on his motorcycle, they said. During the pursuit, Hamilton rode in an extremely reckless manner without regard for anyone on the road, officials say. Hamilton reached speeds exceeding 70 mph, and allegedly rode on the wrong side of the roadway into oncoming traffic. He apparently fled on foot, northbound into nearby fields on Stetson Avenue until reaching California Avenue, where his motorcycle either crashed, or was deliberately dumped. With assistance of a K9 handler, officers began conducting a yard-to-yard search, and quickly located Hamilton hiding inside a barn on private property. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he resisted arrest, and had to be physically subdued, police said. Hamilton’s motorcycle was stored as evidence as he was booked into jail where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. An arraignment at an unspecified court was scheduled for Jan. 19; no public updates have been made on this case.
