According to a statement, first responders arrived around 7:40 a.m. and crime scene investigation ensued by the afternoon. The dead man was reportedly found in the 800 block of W. Wright Avenue near Felipe Place. Neighbors attested to allegedly hearing gunshots being fired hours before the body was discovered, officials said. A search warrant was apparently obtained by detectives to search one of the houses on W. Wright Avenue. Whether the warrant was obtained to search the house where the body was found is unclear, and remains to be specified by authorities involved in the case. Police continue to refrain from disclosing further information on the case as it has yet to be made clear what lead up to the man’s death, and who the suspect(s) might be. The case is reportedly under ongoing investigation by the Hemet Police Department. Same day that the body turned up in the backyard on W. Wright Avenue, the body of Kyle Nathan Cagey, 27, was also found in an unrelated crime near Castille Rock in a homicide case. A Hemet woman named Kathleen Ann Haney, 56, in relation to the case is still missing. Vincent James Marples, 33, was arrested same day in Hemet on suspicion of murdering his girlfriend Cassandra Taylor, 33, whose dead body was found in the passenger compartment of his SUV on a dirt road off of Gibbel Road and State Street. According to an analysis by NeighborhoodScout, Hemet has one of the highest crime rates in America, period, compared to all communities of all sizes –– from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. That said, they assess that the likelihood of falling victim to crimes of violence is one in 138, and one of 22 people in Hemet will fall victim to property crime. Statistics also draw on the fact that more than 96 percent of communities in the entirety of California have a lower crime rate than Hemet. San Jacinto is slightly safer with the likelihood of falling victim to violent crimes at one in 353, and property crimes at one in 28. Please see charts. During a time like this when crime is at an all-time high in our communities, and murder and death tolls seem to have become everyday coffee talk, The Valley Chronicle advises you to take all necessary preemptive measures to safeguard your home and area of work for the safety of all locals. And should you have any information on the backyard body case, we ask that you call Hemet Police Detective Corporal M. Hall at (951) 765-2324. All callers may remain anonymous.
