San Bernardino Valley’s Women’s Basketball team bit off more than they could chew against Mt. San Jacinto’s ladies, who took the game 128-34

But the fact that the ladies led off last Friday night’s basketball double header at Mt. San Jacinto College would stand to prove otherwise. That’s when an opponent that has long been absent from the Eagles’ Nest came to town: The San Bernardino Valley Lady Wolverines. San Bernardino managed the first point of the game before the Lady Eagles burst into life. The lady Eagles picked up 22 points in this first quarter, with San Bernardino nipping at their talons with 14. In the second quarter, the lady Eagles were flying high…so high that the Wolverines couldn’t catch them. MSJC picked up 40 big points by halftime, whereas San Bernardino only picked up four. After halftime, the Eagles resumed their winning ways, adding 37 points in third quarter while the Wolverines picked up just nine. With the Lady Eagles on the cusp of triple digits at the start of the final quarter, San Bernardino’s ladies were sweating bullets. The Lady Wolverines showed as much gusto as they could muster but in the end…MSJC was just too good. The final count was the Wolverines 34, the Lady Eagles 128. Delacy Brown was the top scorer of this game, dropping in a whopping 26 points with 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Randi Johnson added 22 with 11 rebounds and Kalia Gower chipped in 21 with 8 boards. Coach Chris Mozga is certainly proud of his team: “We started out a little slowly,” he said. “In games like that, we’re always trying not to watch the scoreboard and make sure we’re getting better.” That said, despite the Wolverines being short-handed with just seven players on the court, it was certainly good to see the San Bernardino girls once again after four years. “It’s always a good rivalry, San Bernardino,” said Mozga. “I’m sure they’ll be back to being a strong team next year.” But for now, the ladies are 21-3 for the season, 3-1 in the Pacific Coast conference. The ladies have another home game next Friday as they take on the Palomar Comets. Will the Lady Comets be seeing birds? Will the Lady Eagles be seeing stars?
