Main St. in San Jacinto.[/caption] ■ By Matt McPherson / Columnist Here in our beautiful hidden gem of a valley, tucked away in a quaint shopping center across from Mistletoe Park in San Jacinto, adjacent from the busy intersection of Main and Hewitt streets is a fabulous Mexican dining experience. Delgado’s is a well-known destination for connoisseurs of delicious Spanish and Mexican style dishes. Their assortment of hearty breakfasts, daily specials and famous seafood dishes always keep them busy from the early morning to the late evening. Delgado’s has been in operation for more than 12 years and continues to stay busy throughout the year. Owners and operators Hector Delgado and his wife, Remedios, are always present and cater to the every need of their patrons to accommodate all requests. They run the very busy restaurant with Hector’s sister, Eva Delgado, and nephew Jorge Delgado in addition to an assortment of very talented cooks. The homemade salsas and pico de gallo compliment their always fresh and savory corn chips and add spice to their many favorable dishes. Some favorites of regular patrons are the shrimp cocktail, camarones al mojo de ajo (with melted butter dipping sauce), shrimp fajitas, unique fish tacos, chile relleno, caldo siete mares. In addition they offer a wide variety of delicious steaks from steak picado, steak ranchero, to milanesa (breaded top sirloin). Some celebrated traditional dishes are the flautas, tamales, enchiladas and chimichangas. Their very filling breakfast menu consists of hearty plates such as huevos rancheros, huevos a la Mexicana, breakfast burritos, nopales, and chilaquiles. Also a comprehensive offering of griddle favorites including pancakes, buttery french toast, and fluffy waffles.

Covered with whipped cream and topped with a cherry, it’s a favorite among children. Delgado’s also offers flan, and cheesecake, which can be ordered plain or with strawberry topping. Delgado’s will always accommodate individual tastes by adding, subtracting or adjusting ingredients to create personalized preferences such as the bobbito burrito, a chile verde chimichanga, or the naked chile relleno (fried chile relleno without the egg coating). Delgado’s deep fried ice cream is arguably the best around.[/caption] Many patrons eat there six days a week, sometimes two or three times a day, creating a large faction of regulars that are always glad to see each other. It’s one place where old time valley residents find long time Hemet, San Jacinto, and Soboba friends gathering in appreciation of the wonderful dining experience. The service is excellent and the mood is always very cordial and pleasant. You can enjoy conversations bouncing from one table to next, reminiscent of a time long gone. Delgado’s is one of the valley’s favorite eateries, but there are numerous other excellent restaurants in our valley. In the future we hope to feature some of these with a critical account of their food and service. Delgado’s is located at 517 E. Main St., San Jacinto Ca 92583.
