Cameron Leonard and Danielle Lebsock.[/caption] ■ By Corey Evan / Sports Reporter Sometimes school feels like a game. If you play a sport for your school, it is a game, especially for outgoing Hemet High 12th graders Danielle Lebsock and Cameron Leonard. The two were nominated to our MVP Spotlight by Hemet High Athletics Director Dave Anderson. “For four years, they’ve been on (our teams), performed tremendously in clutch situations, led the team and have done all the things captains and great athletes do,” Anderson said. Lebsock played for the Bulldogs’ varsity softball team this year, which made it to round three of the CIF playoffs. She also played on the volleyball team early on in high school. “My biggest influences would definitely be both of my parents and the head coach, Coach (Jeff) Galloway, here at school,” said Lebsock. “They have helped push me to become the person that I am, and just helped me get to where I needed to be.” Lebsock’s proudest seasons have been her freshman year, and this year, both of which the Lady Bulldogs brought home league championships and both times made it through two rounds of CIF playoffs. Lebsock’s veterinary studies will take this Bulldog to the East Coast as she attends West Virginia State University. Cameron Leonard was part of the varsity baseball team, which made it to the first round of CIF playoffs May 19, where they were defeated by Fullerton. He spent all four years of high school with the team. “Ever since I was three years old, ever since I could walk really… I’ve been just playing sports,” said Leonard. “I’ve been kicking a ball around, or my grandpa’s tossing me a baseball. So I’ve been playing all my life.” Leonard says his proudest moment was when his team won League Championships in 2015. “We had such a strong team, and we played really well together,” he recalled. “We worked well as a team and just went all the way with it. You can’t have a winning team without camaraderie.” Leonard will be attending UC San Diego in the fall, where he will study international business. Lebsock and Leonard walked at the Hemet High Graduation Ceremony at the Ramona Bowl Wednesday May 31, along with their 500 classmates. Regardless of cords or regalia, the two with their red caps and gowns, the opportunity to play for Hemet High and create memorable moments for spectators was a great honor. Do you have a student athlete to nominate for our MVP Spotlight? If so, reach Corey Evan at (760) 270-5625 or cevan@thevalleychronicle.com.
