Domestic violence call / illegal marijuana grow

On Thursday, July 13, deputies from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station responded to the 38000 block of Boulder Hill, Anza, to investigate an alleged report of a domestic violence incident. When deputies arrived at the location, they contacted Anza resident Aaron Milldrum, 32, who had multiple lacerations to his face, arms and feet, which he stated he sustained in an altercation with his girlfriend. Upon further investigation by deputies, it was determined Milldrum had assaulted his girlfriend. In response to the assault, the victim allegedly hit Milldrum several times in self-defense to get him to stop. The victim was treated at a local hospital for the injuries she received during the alleged assault. Her injuries were non-life threatening and she was released. The suspect, Aaron Milldrum, was transported to a local hospital and treated for the non-life threatening injuries he received during the alleged altercation. He was ultimately released into Sheriff’s custody and transported to the Larry D. Smith Correction Facility for booking. He is being charged with 273.5 PC, 245 (a) (1) PC, and 11358 H&S. During the investigation, it was discovered that Milldrum was allegedly growing marijuana in multiple rooms of his residence. The Sheriff’s Department is also investigating that violation of law as well. This is an active investigation and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Cpl. Report a Hemet crime online

The Hemet Police Department allows the public to report certain crimes online, saving time and freeing up officers for more urgent needs. The following crimes can be reported online: Harassing phone calls, hit and run, lost property, theft, vandalism and vehicle burglary/vandalism. To start an online report, the following questions must be answered with a “yes:” (1) there are no known suspects; (2) the crime did not occur on a state freeway and is within the Hemet Police Department city limits, and (3) the situation is not an emergency. Report the crime on the City of Hemet’s website at www.cityofhemet.org and select “Departments,” then “Police,” then “Report a Crime” from the drop down menu. Select the type of crime you wish to report, then complete the online form. When the report is complete, a police report case number will be issued and a copy of the report can be printed for record-keeping purposes. The words “Your online police report has been submitted,” will also be shown. All cases filed using the online reporting system will be reviewed.

Hemet man dies in SR-79 head-on collision

A fatal head-on collision on State Route 79 near Gilman Springs Road occurred on July 14 at about 6:15 a.m. The California Highway Patrol, CalFire and Riverside County Fire responded to the scene of the collision and determined that a red 2003 Nissan Sentra collided with a white 2013 GMC pickup truck. The Sentra was sheared in half and its driver, Brian Crabtree, age 57, of Hemet, was declared dead by paramedics. The driver of the white GMC, Christopher Mix, 43, from Mentone, suffered minor injuries and sought his own medical attention. “For reasons not yet determined, the driver of the Nissan veered sharply to the left, across the median section of SR-79 and directly in the path of the GMC,” said CHP Public Information Officer Darren Meyer. “The severity of the impact caused the Nissan to be torn in half and the driver [Crabtree] was killed instantly.” According to CHP Officer Sig Ceballos of the California Highway Patrol, who was on scene at the collision site, Mix survived because he wore his seatbelt and his airbags deployed. Officials are not ruling out mechanical failure as a cause of the collision. The southbound lane of SR 79 was closed pending the investigation. Officers opened the roadway except for one lane at approximately 8:15 a.m. This is a pending investigation by CHP and more details will be released when available.

Assault in Weston Park

An adult female was assaulted and sprayed in the face with mace or some other type of pepper spray on Tuesday, July 18 in Weston Park. The assault was allegedly perpetrated by another person in the park. The person assaulted refused to give her name or any details of the assault.

Attempted carjacking in Hemet

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Hemet Station, responded to the 42000 block of Whittier Ave. in Hemet on July 14 to investigate a report of a carjacking. The victims were asleep in their vehicle when two males yanked the driver from the vehicle and allegedly began to repeatedly punch and kick him. The victims fled to a safe area and called for help. While waiting for the police to respond, the suspects hooked a chain to the victim’s vehicle and attempted to tow the vehicle away. When deputies arrived at the location, the suspects fled on foot. A perimeter was established and one of the suspects, Richard Lester, 27 of Hemet, was apprehended. The second suspect remains at large. The second suspect has not been arrested and is described as a white male adult, approximately 6-feet tall, heavyset with multiple tattoos on his arms. The victim was transported to a local hospital and received treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The decedent was identified by Sgt. Grimm with the coroner’s office. This is an active investigation and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Deputy Craner at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station at 951-791-3400.

Victims in July 3 double fatal collision identified

On July 3 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a 40-year-old Downey man was driving a red, 1992 Chevrolet Corvette westbound on Gilman Springs Road, east of the intersection at Bridge Street. John McDaniel, a 60-year-old man from Los Angeles, was driving a silver, 2002 Buick LeSabre eastbound on Gilman Springs Road, approaching the Corvette. “Due to the Corvette’s excessive speed,” according to press release by California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Darren Meyer, “the driver was unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway. He allowed the Corvette to drift left, across double yellow lines and into the eastbound lane of Gilman Springs Road, directly into the path of the Buick driven by McDaniel.” Sgt. Grimm of the coroner’s office identified the driver of the Corvette as Francisco Gonzalez, age 40, of Downey. Both vehicles collided in the eastbound lane of Gilman Springs Road. The Corvette immediately burst into flames, according to Meyer. Andrew Brown, a 77-year-old Los Angeles man, was sitting in the front seat of the Buick, according to Sgt. Grimm. Both drivers and Brown were trapped in the wreckage. An on-duty Hemet Police officer was first at the scene, and with the help of another witness, said Meyer, was able to remove McDaniel from the Buick. Both McDaniel and Brown were transported by ground ambulance to Riverside University Medical Center. Brown succumbed to his injuries at the hospital at approximately 1:36 a.m. Gonzalez was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol, drugs and/or reckless driving have not been ruled out as contributing factors in the cause of this collision. This incident is being investigated by CHP Officer Bolon.
