Florida Avenue median waste of money
Dear Editor, I can’t find anything positive about the Florida Avenue (State Highway 74) median project via Caltrans. Hemet doesn’t need it. It’s typical of Sacramento government. The Democrats in our state capital have tax and spend set in concrete, so to speak. It never enters their thinking to cut out unnecessary projects. Besides this median being a waste of time and money, Gov. Jerry Brown is determined to waste more tax dollars with the high speed train. And if it is ever built, after perhaps a dozen stops between Los Angeles and San Francisco, it might average 75 mph. Then there are the tunnels and the wholesale waste of half the state’s freshwater to San Francisco Bay. The Democrats seem to think stupidity is a virtue. If Hemet is stuck with the median project, let Caltrans do the cobblestone and stamped concrete and take the cash of the annual median maintenance and work with the county to repave some of Hemet’s streets that badly need it. Soboba Street south of Florida Avenue would be a good example. Sincerely,John Beck, Hemet
VA provided excellent care to my husband
Dear Editor, My husband, Robert “Bob” Miller was a Vietnam veteran. It took almost a year and a half to see doctors at the Veterans Administration (VA) and get his benefits – he hung in there until it was done. Through the years he had good health care. We had no complaints about his care on his last trip (he passed away on Oct. 3, 2017). He had excellent care. The teamwork was great from nurses to wound care to respiratory techs. Never once did we see or hear bad things…most of the time we only saw smiles. If he needed anything, he got it. The cafeteria staff was so helpful (He was in the CCU-NICU-SICU). Yes, the staffing is short (about 300). Over time this will be resolved. Most of the staff at the VA are graduates and trained at Loma Linda University and that makes them young, well-educated, open to new ideas and procedures. They are the “cream of the crop.” All in all, our experience with the VA care he received was great, under the circumstances. Sincerely,Mildred Miller, Hemet
No to annexation of Valle Vista
Dear Editor, In answer to your recent question of the week regarding annexing parts of Riverside County to the city of Hemet, give me one good reason why we who live in Valle Vista would want to be part of Hemet’s problems! If all they want is our tax money, that is not a good enough reason for us to join them. What would they do for us other than give us their problems that we don’t need? Respectfully,Joan Saeger, Hemet
Median will not brighten Hemet’s smile
Dear Editor, If you had a mouthful of decayed, rotting teeth and gums and also needed orthodontia, you’d go to the best dentist you could afford. What if he examined your mouth and said, “What we need to do for you is whiten your teeth”? Silly, huh? Your intention to “brighten” our city with an unwelcome median is no less ridiculous. If Caltrans has money to spend, how about attacking our decaying and/or misaligned roads? How about repairing or replacing some bridges? Look around Riverside County and you’ll find a to-do list we can all benefit from. Sincerely,Carolyn Straub, Hemet
