A Hemet Police Department cruiser sustained moderate damage to the front portion of the driver’s side on Nov. 27.[/caption] ■ Mary Ann Morris / Editor Two vehicles sustained moderate damage in a collision between a Hemet Police Department cruiser and a hybrid silver Ford Fusion on Nov. 27 near the intersection of Acacia Avenue and Buena Vista Street in Hemet. An HPD Community Services officer was driving alone in a marked police vehicle Monday afternoon when the collision occurred with the Ford Fusion. The driver of the Fusion was also the sole occupant of the vehicle. According to Lt. Glen Brock of the Hemet Police Department, the community services officer sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Both vehicles sustained damage to the front left wheel, requiring both vehicles to be towed away from the scene. It appears that the front left wheel of each vehicle was sheared off. American Medical Response, the Hemet Fire Department and several additional police units including an HPD motorcycle arrived within minutes after the collision was reported. “The preliminary investigation reveals that the other driver left their lane and swerved into the lane occupied by the police vehicle, striking the front driver side portion [of the] police vehicle,” said Brock. “Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.” The Hemet Police Department is handling the investigation, said Brock.
