Hemet Fire Department continues to make significant strides towards the future; it’s important periodically to take a look in the rear view mirror and look at the progress that has been made. Case in point, the...memo from Riverside County announcing advanced life support (ALS)/paramedic service enhancements. Today, I am pleased to share that all Hemet Fire Stations are staffed with an ALS/paramedic staffed engine company. The most important ingredient? Highly skilled firefighters trained in multiple disciplines ready to handle virtually any emergency.

SJ man charged with 14 counts of sexually assaulting child under 10

A 22-year-old San Jacinto man was being held on more than $9 million bail after being arrested Jan. 19 on charges of sexually assaulting a child under 10, according to a report in Riverside County News.Source (RCNS). Benny Albert Zavala was booked into Riverside County Jail for investigation of five counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, five counts of sodomizing a child under 10, and four counts of oral copulation with a child under 10, according to authorities. At this time, police officials declined to disclose additional information, but further details will be released in the near future, according to Corona Police Sgt. Chad Fountain. Zavala is being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, according to RCNS, which did a search of jail records. Corona police detectives are encouraging anyone with information about this case to contact them at 951-736-2330. Respondents may remain anonymous.

Hemet Police Chief looks to strategic plan

Policing in the “new economy” requires strategic thinking, determination, and a community that is fully committed to the effort. As your Chief of Police, I am blessed to be surrounded by skilled professionals, invested community members, and city leaders who care deeply about the future of Hemet. However, we recognize that it is not enough to be skilled, caring and invested; we must have a plan if we expect to fully recover from the impacts of the Great Recession on our valley. This plan demonstrates the police department’s commitment to leading the effort to revitalize our community. The Hemet Police Department Five-Year Strategic Plan* is anchored in our belief that community policing is the foundation for creating a safe, thriving community. The relationships we build are the key to collectively improving the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, shops and plays in Hemet. This plan is the product of thoughtful input and participation by a cross-section of police employees, community members and elected officials. We are grateful for the interest and input we received from our key stakeholders. The Strategic Plan is intended to be a dynamic, living document that clearly defines our mission, vision and values, recognizes our challenges, and sets a clear path toward improving the safety and security of our community. The four Strategic Priorities set forth in this plan will guide our efforts and decisions as we move forward. The objectives and strategies will challenge us to stay focused and consistent as we navigate the future. Finally, our commitment to revisit the plan annually will push us to be flexible and innovative as we make progress and new challenges present themselves. On behalf of the sworn, civilian and volunteer members of the Hemet Police Department, we are excited to present this plan to our community and we look forward to partnering with each of you to produce a safe, thriving community.
