Stolen vehicle pursuit ends with police spike strip
A wanted man stopped by Hemet Police for a vehicle equipment infraction was cooling his heels in Riverside County Jail last week on more than a half million dollar bond after he led police on a high-speed chase. According to a Hemet Police Department press release, on May 8, at about 9:15 p.m., a Hemet Police officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of San Jacinto Street and Oakland Avenue in Hemet. The initial stop was for a vehicle equipment violation, but before contacting the driver, the officer discovered the vehicle was reported stolen May 1. The driver suddenly sped away, and the officer issued a vehicle pursuit alert. Other police joined in the chase and successfully deployed a spike strip in the 600 block of Toledo Drive. Anthony Warino was arrested for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading, and two unrelated arrest warrants for possession of a stolen vehicle, prison priors, and possession of narcotics, police said. Currently, Warino is not on probation or parole. Warino was booked into Riverside County Jail where he is being held on a combined bail amount of $535,000 related to the vehicle pursuit and arrest warrants.Hemet police work to reduce pedestrian and bicycle related traffic collisions
In a continued effort to reduce pedestrian and bicycle related traffic collisions, the Hemet Police Department visited West Valley High School and set up shop to speak with young men and women about bicycle safety. As school let out, students came over to see what their police department had to offer. Not only did they stick around to learn about bicycle safety, they took tests related to the information they were presented! Everyone who participated received a coupon for a free Slurpee from 7-11. Police wished to thank West Valley High School for allowing them to visit the campus and to 7-11 for providing the drink coupons. Police also expressed its appreciation to he students who stopped by Police/Community partnership, saying, “This is how we get things done.”English, Valley Chronicle: Thu, Dec 15, 2022
