San Jacinto Police, schools launch anti-violence campaign
San Jacinto Unified School District.[/caption] ■ SJ Unified School District / Contributed In response to the proliferation of violence on school campuses that has recently captured the nation’s attention, the San Jacinto Police Department and San Jacinto Unified School District have announced a school anti-violence campaign called “Cultivating a Community of Caring.” The campaign offers both immediate and long-term activities as well as an overall safety plan. One major aspect of the campaign is promoting the, “If You See It, Say Something” refrain throughout the community and especially at each of the school sites. SJUSD has re-launched its mobile application “Anonymous Alerts” for parents and students to report valid safety concerns for any school. SJUSD Superintendent Diane Perez reported meeting with students and listening to their concerns prior to the March 14 remembrance demonstration in support of students at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. “We are thankful for our partnership with SJUSD,” says Lt. John Salisbury, of the San Jacinto Police Department. “We thoroughly investigate all threats using our Kids with Guns protocol,” he continued, “and we especially appreciate the school district for working diligently with education and observation to help prevent any acts of violence with our community youth.” This anti-violence campaign is a highly relevant action, especially in the wake of America’s most recent school shooting tragedy happening in Santa Fe, Texas. Implementing this plan will help ensure student safety and preparedness within our own schools across San Jacinto School District.
