Chronicle News Staff Hemet Historic Theatre Tribute Mania concerts are in season including tributes to Chicago on July 7, The Bee Gees July 14, The Eagles August 4, and Abba August 18. Showtime for all Tribute Mania concerts is 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 6:15 pm. Tickets are $22 presale and $25 the day of the show. HHT also features classic films for only five dollars every Monday and Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Coming up on Tuesday June 19 will be The Long Shot (1939) starring Gordon Jones, Marsha Hunt, and C. Sunset Rotary Comedy Show The Hemet Sunset Rotary is a offering a night of jazz and jokes on June 23 with a “clean” show from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and a “blue” show from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Both shows will be presented in the Diamond Valley Arts Center located at 123 N. Harvard Street. Tickets are $15 presale and $20 at the door. The Sunset Rotary is working with Bubba’s Comedy who are providing comedians including Patrick DeGuire, Brian Apprille, Anthony Stone, and more. There will be refreshments and snacks available, including alcohol for those with proper I.D. There will be raffles throughout the night and a range of prizes. Concerts Under the Stars at the Ramona Bowl Join the fun this summer by attending one or all in the live musical performance series at the Ramona Bowl, 27400 Ramona Bowl Road, Hemet; www.ramonabowl.com. Following is a list of upcoming events: June 28 - 8 p.m. - Stone Soul, the best of classic soul and motown. July 2 & 3 - 6 p.m. - Shrek The Musical. Students aged 5-18 are encouraged to sign up to participate. Sign-ups were May 12, but rehearsals don’t begin until June 11 at West Valley HS Theater, so you may be able to put your name on the waiting list. Upcoming Chinese cooking classes On July 10, the third in a series of Chinese cooking classes will be held at the Simpson Center, 305 E. Devonshire Ave. in Hemet. The class will cover how to make egg-drop soup, kung pao chicken, and walnut date wontons. Future classes will include instruction in cooking kung pao chicken, egg drop soup, sweet and sour chicken, tomato beef chow mein, and paper-wrapped chicken. The first class provided an introduction to Chinese cooking and covered egg rolls, beef with broccoli along with how to properly season a wok. The second class covered potstickers, wonton soup, and stir-fried Mongolian beef on rice. And, for those who are present for the final class, almond cookies will be the final Chinese dish. Student chefs also learn hands-on how to prepare Chinese appetizers, including fried wontons and potstickers. Some Chinese desserts are also included. Classes are held once a month on Thursdays in the kitchen of the Simpson Center. Space is limited, so it’s best to make a reservation. The cost is $15 per person per session and includes the opportunity to chop, prepare, cook and enjoy the dishes that are taught. Two Salvation Army summer camps for youth The Hemet Salvation Army is hosting its annual summer camps both in town and in the mountains that began June 18. In town, children from 1st thru 8th grades can go on local field trips, engage in activities and complete projects, and have lunch and snacks with lots of fun at the Salvation Army Hemet Community Center, 340 S. Palm Ave., Hemet. The youth camp runs from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday - Thursday, June 18 - July 26. The cost is $35 per week ($160 value thanks to sponsors). In the mountains, children ages 5-17 can attend the Salvation Pine Summit Summer Camp near Big Bear during weekly sessions between June 18 – July 23. Rock climbing, nature walks, archery, swimming, and more are available. The cost is $380 per week per youth. Arts “Exploratorium” at Trinity Lutheran Church Starting in mid-July the Trinity Lutheran Church Arts Exploratorium Committee plans for a 5-day arts exploratorium for incoming pre-K through 6th grade Hemet-area students. The focus will be on the arts of music, painting, fabric crafts, and acting fundamentals. Joni Pikard, Arts Exploratorium Committee member, said that in addition to fun activities, the event will include healthy snacks for the kids. The arts exploratorium will take place from July 16-20 during the hours of 1 -5 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 191 South Columbia St. in Hemet. Applications for enrollment and scholarships can be obtained by calling the church office at 951-658-5013.
Hemet Senior Computer Club The club meets the third Monday of every month from 10 a.m.–noon at Valley-Wide Valle Vista Recreation Center. The club is open to anyone in the Hemet/San Jacinto area who would like to learn and share knowledge of computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. Valley-Wide Recreation Center, 43935 E.
