“Awakening to the Arts” theme showcases local talent within the valley

Festival of Arts is a “festival that celebrates all forms of arts.” During this event at The Arts Center, the gallery that is run by the Diamond Valley Arts Council, there were many performers that participated.[/caption] ■ Kathleen Prokop / Contributed On Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21, art lovers at the Diamond Valley Arts Council participated in the 13th Annual Festival of Arts. Kathy Callicott, who chaired this year’s Festival of Arts, said that the reason why the Festival of Arts was a success was because of the participation. “Hopefully, we can build on that next year” she said. The DVAC is located at 123 North Harvard Street in Hemet. The Art Center is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.[/caption] Interesting things about the Festival of Arts The Festival of Arts was most interesting this year because there were many talented artists in the valley who participated. What is the Festival of Arts? Callicott said that Festival of Arts is a “festival that celebrates all forms of arts.” During this event at The Arts Center, the gallery that is run by the Diamond Valley Arts Council, there were many performers that participated. All performers were wonderful. One of the great performers was from the Mt. San Jacinto College Dance Department. The student dancers executed most wonderful dance forms. Their costumes were simple with the modern world. Who are the winners? During the Festival of Arts, Diamond Valley Arts Council awards artists winners with juried entries. The categories were: Art, Music, and Literary. The first place winners were: 2D Art, “Untitled2” by Dick Howard; 3D Art, “Celtic Owl Gravestone” by Michael Walker; Photography, “Pioneers Gate” by Sherri Domenigoni; Short Story, “The Tragic Saga of Irish Tater” by Robert Wayne Norman; Poetry, “Phoenix Rises from her Ashes” by Jenois Harris. The theme “Awakening to the Arts” as Callicott mentioned is the hope “to inspire creativity and to bring community together and celebrate it.” The Diamond Valley Arts Council this year involved the non-profit organizations from Harvard Hemet Downtown by asking them to get involved. Non-Profit organizations involvement Some of the non-profit organizations that joined the event were: MUSICA!, Hemet Valley Concert Association, Ramona Carvers, Valley Vocal, Historic Downtown Hemet Organizations, Diamond Valley Writers Guild, Hemet Valley Art Association.
