Mt. San Jacinto English Department and college foundation present fall readings for Visiting Writers Series

San Jacinto College English Department, in association with the MSJC Foundation, will be hosting award-winning authors David Hernandez at the San Jacinto Campus and Katie Farris on the Menifee Valley Campus. This is an extraordinary opportunity for students and the public to listen to local authors who will read from their work, and engage in a discussion about the craft of creative writing. On Wednesday, Nov. 7, David Hernandez will be featured at MSJC San Jacinto campus from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Hernandez’s most recent collection of poetry is Dear, Sincerely (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2016). His other books include Hoodwinked, Always Danger, and A House Waiting for Music. David has been awarded an NEA Literature Fellowship, two Pushcart Prizes, the Kathryn A. Morton Prize, and the Crab Orchard Award. David is also the author of two young adult novels, No More Us for You and Suckerpunch, both published by HarperCollins. Hernandez’s Dear, Sincerely is his most intimate and dynamic collection to date, bringing the reader into poems that are simultaneously personal and universal, and sometimes political. Katie Farris is an award-winning fiction writer, poet and translator who will be featured at the MSJC Menifee campus on Thursday Nov. 8 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. She is the author of boysgirls, from Marick Press which has been lauded as “truly innovative,” “a tour de force,” and a “book with a gigantic scope.” A winner of 2017 Orison Anthology Award in Fiction and the 2018 Anne Halley Poetry Prize from The Massachusetts Review, she has published work in Virginia Quarterly Review, Prairie Schooner, Western Humanities Review, Literary Review, Verse and many other publications. Her translations and original work have appeared in anthologies published by Penguin and Graywolf. An unforgettable book of Ovidian imagination, boysgirls testifies that Katie Farris is one of the most talented prose stylists of a new generation. These events are free and open to the public.
