Hemet Women’s Club hosts fundraiser for local veterans

[/caption] ■ By Jan Kriz / Contributed The Hemet Woman’s Club sponsored a gently-used shoe drive to raise funds to help local vets while providing a low cost footwear for people in developing nations on Tuesday, Jan. 8. All the shoes collected were given to L.A. based Angel Bins, a recycling company. The fundraising event took place at All Star Super Storage located on 302 South Lyon Avenue in Hemet. Angel Bins issued a check to the club based on total weight of 976 pounds of shoes collected. The funds received will be given to Inland Empire Veterans; this is part of a mission to provide housing and supportive services to veterans and their families throughout the Inland Empire. Angel Bins uses the shoe donations to help develop micro-businesses in third-world countries, helping struggling families to build a stable income. “We are really excited about the success of this shoe drive” Jan Kriz, Project Chairman said in a recent interview. “Most people have extra shoes in their closets and what a wonderful way to donate them. It is a win-win situation for everyone.” Hemet Woman’s Club is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization. The club, in existence since 1906 and affiliated with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, has served the local community for over 110 years.
