The Hemet-Joslyn Lawn Bowls Club The Hemet-Joslyn Lawn Bowls Club will hold its next tournament on Mar. 30. Spectators are always welcome at their greens located on 2625 West Devonshire Avenue (the backside of Gibble Park). Water-wise landscape design workshops UC Master Gardeners of Riverside County in partnership with Valley Beautiful will present three workshops on water-wise landscape design at the Hemet Public Library conference room on Saturdays, March 16 & 30, from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, and Saturday, April 20, from 9-11 a.m. Topics will include the following: • Climate zones; understanding characteristics of your property; water and drought; soil preparation; creating a site design; water-wise plant selection; irrigation; installation; and class project. • Series cost: $10 payable to Valley Beautiful. Senior Wednesday Night Dances at Hemet West A highlight of the Senior Wednesday Night Dances at Hemet West is the various themes, while the attractive clubhouse is decorated accordingly. Dancers enjoy dressing according to the themes. There are excellent different dance bands each Wednesday. The ceiling lights dim, replaced by atmospheric multi-colored sparkling lights, and the fun-filled evening of dancing begins. March 20–American Made. March 27–Stage Robbers. The dances are open to the public and run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $6 each, proper attire is required (no work jeans, tank tops, or shorts), and alcohol is not allowed. Opportunity drawings offer free tickets. Tables have snacks, and pitchers of water; and freshly brewed tea and coffee is available. Location: Hemet West, 5001 W. Myths & Mythology The Mt. San Jacinto College Anthropology Department and the Western Science Center will sponsor a spring lecture series, “Myths & Mythology,” at 7 p.m. on the below dates at the Western Science Center in Hemet. The lectures will feature college faculty speaking about topics within their academic disciplines. “Myths & Mythology” will look into the different ways in which mythological concepts affect and are affected by society: April 4: History Instructor Christina Yamanaka will focus on “From Early Origins to the Rise of the Modern State: The Role of Shinto in Japanese Society.” May 2: Anthropology Professor John Torres will lecture about “The Navajo Hero Twins: Fighting Monsters Then and Now.” Cost is $5 for students with ID, $8 for general public, and free for Western Science Center members.
