Three extremely talented high school students were chosen by the association’s members to receive scholarships to the Hemet Valley Art Association. First Place winning entry, “Sassy Sarah Vaughn,” by Lysett Martinez; Second Place winning entry, “Imagination,” by Yuliya Razhiova; Third Place winning entry, “Cab Calloway, You Are Hep” by Caitlyn Lacas. The entire room was filled with works of art that were created in so many different mediums. Watercolor, acrylics, pastels, pen and ink, pencil and charcoal prints were fixed upon a variety of background materials using so many different techniques. Several artists carved wood, made sculptures out of metal, and even painted on wine goblets. There were four artists demonstrating to the crowd how they create their beautiful works of art. Artist Janice Cipriani-Willis, NWS WW, her medium of choice is watercolor, as was artist Betty Pilley’s choice. Artist Kathi Fox uses different mediums: watercolor, acrylic or pastels. Kathi selects the medium she uses guided by each particular piece. Artist Rick Giberson, whose medium is wood, demonstrated his woodcarving skills using special tools to create finer detailed carvings of his whimsical art pieces. In addition to the artist demonstrations, there was finger food and wine for the visiting connoisseurs of fine art. Many stayed after the scholarships were awarded in anticipation of winning an amazing assortment of baskets, gifts, and services offered as opportunity drawing prizes. The net proceeds from the sale of tickets and art will help support budding future artists and their creativity.
